"THE HERKIMER STORY"
The History of cheese production in the United States began in Herkimer County New York in 1850. The rich soil produced grass that dairy cows thrived on. Under these excellent conditions milk was wholesome and so plentiful farmers started making cheese. Soon the quality of Herkimer County Cheddar was so famous it was marketed throughout the world.
Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Basloe established the Original Herkimer County Cheese Company in 1949. Together with their three sons, the Basloe's have been manufacturing the famous Cheddar for more than fifty years.
Our Company takes great pains to
insure that the Herkimer County Cheddar Cheese we use in all our products is
the same quality that made our area famous for Cheddar Cheese production. We
use only natural New York State Cheddar that has been slowly aged. While
production of our cheeses is still very traditional in technique, the
technology of the 21st Century has only helped our company to better serve our
customers.
Original Herkimer Cheeses are available in Aged Cheddar, Flavored Spreads, Balls & Logs, CHUTTER, Fudge, Dips and much more.
In 1986, Ida Mae Salads was added as an additional enterprise, manufacturing a wide variety of dessert products including No Fat Fruited Gelatines, Light & Creamy Parfaits and Snack JELS- A No Fat, No Cholesterol finger-food snack.
